India medical visa for Kenyan passport holders

- Valid Kenyan passport (minimum 6 months validity beyond planned stay)
- Medical visa application: apply at the Indian High Commission, Nairobi
- Hospital invitation letter from an Indian hospital confirming treatment(we help you obtain this)
- Medical records showing the need for treatment abroad
- Bank statement demonstrating financial capacity for treatment and stay
- Recent passport photographs
- Visa fee (approximately $80–$100 USD)
Typically 5–10 working days. The Indian High Commission in Nairobi is efficient with medical visa applications. Apply at least 3 weeks before travel.
One family member or companion may apply simultaneously for an X (attendant) visa to accompany you throughout the treatment period.

Kenya Airways operates regular direct flights from Nairobi (JKIA) to New Delhi (Indira Gandhi International). This is the most convenient option for Kenyan patients. Book early for the best fares, especially for peak medical tourism season (October–March).

Practical tips for your stay
Currency
Indian Rupee (INR). Convert Kenyan Shillings to USD or GBP before travel and exchange at authorised Delhi counters. Visa/Mastercard ATMs are widely available. Avoid airport exchange desks.
SIM Card
Pick up an Airtel or Jio SIM on arrival at Delhi airport. Both are cheap and have strong coverage. You will need it for navigation and local communication.
Food
Delhi has good East African cuisine options in several areas. Indian food shares some spicing similarities. Halal options are readily available across hospital neighbourhoods.
Weather
Delhi winters (November–February) are similar to a cool Nairobi night, comfortable for recovery. Summers (April–June) are extremely hot. October–March is the recommended period for medical travel.
Language
English is used throughout India’s hospital system and in all major hotels and service providers. Kenyan patients report feeling very comfortable with communication across Delhi’s medical areas.
